The route
Marangu Gate › Mandara Hut › Horombo Hut › Kibo Hut › Uhuru Peak
Marangu is the oldest route on the mountain and the only one where you sleep in huts rather than tents. It approaches from the south-east and descends the same way, so you see the same ground twice.
It is often called the easy route. That is misleading. The path itself is gentle, but seven days is the least acclimatisation of the three we run, and acclimatisation is what decides how you feel above 4,000 m.
Choose it if a bed and a solid roof matter to you, or if you are trekking in a wetter month when camping is less appealing.
Who it suits
- Trekkers who would rather sleep in a hut than a tent
- Those travelling in wetter months
- Anyone with only a week available
How we adjust it
Every one of our journeys is a starting point. We lengthen or shorten them, make them private, change the comfort level, swap a park, or add the coast. Tell us your dates and what matters most and we will shape it around you.
Ready when you are
Tell us roughly when you want to travel and what you would like to see. We take it from there.
